Green Is More Than Just A Color In The Art Business

Islamorada, Florida, USA, October 6, 2008-Nadine and Glenn Original Lobster Trap Art, a unique frame and art company in the Florida Keys

With the emphasis on “going green” on most people’s minds these days, Nadine and Glenn’s Original Lobster Trap Art is a pioneer in their industry.  They take old and unusable lobster traps and recycle them, creating unique weathered frames from the wood.

Most of the traps have been used for over 5 seasons in the Florida Keys lobster business.  Only their use underwater can create the rustic look the wood gets from being submerged for so long.

“By recycling the lobster traps, we keep the landfills from being the final resting place for these traps” explains Nadine Lahti, co-founder of the company.  The frames that are created are unique and one of a kind, truly a piece of art!

Nadine and Glenn are also both artists and they put their original paintings in these nautical frames.  “It is like getting 2 pieces of artwork in one!” according to Glenn Lahti, the other partner in the company.  To see pictures of these fabulous frames visit their website at www.lobstertrapart.com.

ARTIST COUPLE COLLABORATE FOR THE FIRST TIME!

Artists Nadine and Glenn Lahti, who have been painting in the Florida Keys, have just completed their first work as a team.

Nadine, who paints mainly tropical birds, fish, and other animals, is a very meticulous and detailed artist.  She can spend weeks on a single image.  Glenn, who paints mainly seascapes and other tropical landscapes is a more “loose and free” artist, using colors and a more impressionistic style.

Glenn created the underwater reef landscape in this first collaboration.   He portrayed a typical Florida Keys reef with corals, sponges, and other rock formations.  Nadine then added the tropical fish, eel, seahorses, and a lobster.

Even though each artist has their own style, the painting looks fabulous.  The canvas size is 24” x 36” inches in the horizontal orientation, and is then framed in one of the couple’s unique, hand built, lobster trap frames.  This makes the collaboration truly a one of a kind masterpiece.

You can view this newest framed painting, as well as other original works by the couple at their website at www.lobstertrapart.com

HOT OFF THE EASLE! (DON’T TOUCH, WET PAINT)

Artists Nadine and Glenn Lahti are unveiling their newest original paintings at the upcoming “In the Park with Art” show and sale at Coral Reef Park at the Village of Palmetto Bay in Miami, Florida on October 25th and 26th 2009.

Nadine, who paints mainly tropical birds, exotic fish, and other beautiful animals, will showcase all her newest creations.  One piece that will attract a lot of attention is her rendition of a swimming green turtle.  The painting is done in oil on a 16 x 20 canvas.  Her “Colossal Claws” is another new work of a cool looking Florida Stone Crab, a true delicacy in the Keys.

Glenn’s newest brushstrokes include Sombrero Reef Lighthouse and Alligator Reef Lighthouse, two great dive locations in the Keys.  He is also going to be showing for the first time his rendition of B.O.’s Fish Wagon Restaurant, a popular eating establishment in Key West.

Of particular interest to their collectors will be the first ever collaboration by the artist couple.  The acrylic painting is an underwater reef scene with local fish and other sea creatures.  Glenn created the corals, sponges, and other rock formations, and Nadine painted the fish, eel, seahorses, and a lobster.

All the paintings will be displayed in the couples unique, hand built, lobster trap frames, made from the wood of actual locally fished traps in the Florida Keys.  For a sneak preview of some of their work, visit www.lobstertrapart.com.
